At St Mary’s, Religious Education is taught weekly across all year groups, following a broad whole-school overview that explores a rich variety of worldviews and beliefs. Using high-quality units from Oak Academy, Understanding Christianity and Somerset Agreed Syllabus, we cultivate a deep, respectful understanding of diverse faiths, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and non-religious worldviews such as Humanism.

Our engaging RE curriculum brings learning to life through active approaches such as drama, philosophical debate, reflective discussions, written responses and varied creative tasks.

We believe learning is enriched when children experience faith in action. Through visits to places of worship and visits from local faith leaders, pupils gain authentic, real-world insights into lived religious traditions. We are particularly proud of our strong partnership with our local minister, Rev. Blewett and St Mary’s Church. Throughout the academic year, our school community regularly visits the church to gather, reflect and celebrate key Christian events, including Harvest, Christmas, Easter and even the Year 6 Leavers Celebration. 

RE gives students valuable insights into the diverse beliefs & opinions held by people today. It helps with their own personal development and supports an understanding of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural questions that surface again and again in their lives.
