Welcome to the Badgers!

In Badgers Class this year we have 16 enthusiastic and conscientious children, and our teaching team is Miss Heath and Mrs Rhymer. In Year 2 we like to have fun with our learning as we build and develop new skills. We encourage and support children to become more independent and it is always amazing to see how much they progress and grow in confidence through the year.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • Children should read at home a minimum of 4 times a week and this should be recorded in their reading record.  We have a whole school reading challenge whereby children receive certificates aligned to the number of reads they do.

  •  Children will start the year reading decodable phonics books which are matched to our Phonics Scheme, Unlocking Letters and Sounds.  As they progress through the year, they will work through the Accelerated Reader Programme which helps develop their comprehension.  They complete a comprehension quiz on the book they have read and then can choose another book from the school library.

  • We have weekly PE lessons and PE kits should be left in school and should contain kit appropriate for both indoor and outdoor lessons.

  • We also have weekly Forest School which gives the children a chance to spend time learning in our fantastic outdoor environment.  Appropriate warm, wet weather clothing should be brought in each week for the children to change into.

  • Children are encouraged to play Number Bots at home to help them develop their Maths skills and there are many certificates to collect as they work through the Number Bots levels.
